1642-1651 Officer of Pike- Red coated Regiment

Description

This costume depicts an officer in a regiment of Pikemen. The style of armour suggests that this is early in the English Civil War. The sash and plume was used for easy recognition and regiment identification during a period of warfare where uniforms where as yet uncommon.
The officer is dressed in a suit of clothes consisting of Doublet and Breeches made from a dark red wool cloth. Many regiments were identified by dressing the majority of the rank and file in similar coloured clothes.
The short pike is called a Partisan. Used for command and control of the Pike Block rather than as a weapon. The officer is also armed with a rapier sword.
