German Sdkfz 222 Light Armoured Car (1943-1945)

This is our SdKfz 222 Armoured Car. We currently have 2 of these excellent reproductions in our collection. Constantly in demand as the original vehicles are extremely rare as so few actually survived WW2. The engine and drive train are from the reliable Land Rover LWB and the bodies are fabricated from steel plate. Both Vehicles have 4X4 drive with low/high ratio gear selection.

These excellent reproductions are both reliable and sturdy. They can comfortably accommodate the driver and 2 crew members. The original armament was a 20mm flak cannon and an MG34. We do have a blank firing weapons system that can be fitted into the turret if required.

We have a collection of different number plates which can be applied. The number plates will identify the vehicle belonging to the Army (Wehrmacht) Airforce (Luftwaffe) or SS.

This vehicle is currently finished in the 3 colour camouflage pattern as directed for most armoured vehicles after 1943. It has the unit markings of the 2nd Panzer Division.

Description

The Leichter PanzerspƤhwagen (German: roughly “light armoured reconnaissance vehicle”) was a series of light four-wheel drive armoured cars produced by Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1944.

The Sdkfz 222 is the second in a series of light reconnaissance vehicles designed to meet operational requirements including reliability, an ability to run on a variety of grades of fuel, simple construction and good off-road performance, The first in the series was the Sd Kfz 221. This type proved too small and too lightly armed, so in 1936-37 a heavier version was planned, using one of two standard chassis for four-wheel armoured cars. One of these used a front-mounted engine, the other rear-mounted. The latter was used in the Sd Kfz 222, which became the standard light armoured car in German army service until the defeat of Nazi Germany.
