Light Auxiliary Troop Wicker Shield.
This is an example of the type of low cost shields made for the light Auxiliary troops of many ancient armies. Designed only to protect from sticks and stones. It served more use protecting from the sun and to give the impression of a well equipped infantryman. In reality, these shields were of little use against spears, arrows or swords. The shields are made from timber with wicker covering. They measure 60cm in diameter.
